Many women suffer from irregular periods, but around 3-4% of women in the UK experience periods that stop altogether, or amenorrhoea. (www.patient.info/doctor/amenorrhoea)
Join us for this free webinar aimed at non-health professionals, which will provide an understanding of the causes of amenorrhoea, from polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) to stress and contraception, as well as supporting infertility. Dr Nicola Harrison, General Practitioner, will be delving into the reasons for secondary amenorrhoea and signs to look out for, guiding us in contraceptive options, and outlining patient care for infertility.
Secondary amenorrhoea can be seen more commonly in athletes, and we will be looking into this, as well as why periods might stop in patients who do not compete in sport at a higher level. PCOS is also a condition which can impact the lives of many, and we will be learning about what can be done to help those of you with the condition, including pharmaceutical drugs, and in some cases, laparoscopic ovarian drilling (LOD).
Briefly, we will touch upon the contraceptive options for women with such conditions and the effects they may have.
Lastly, the webinar will finish up with a guide to infertility from initial GP appointment to secondary care, helping you to understand your options and who you can go to for help.
If you are a healthcare practitioner, you are welcome to book on. However, please note that this course is targeted at the general public and will involve less clinical detail than our comprehensive 2-hour CPD courses.
We will send you an email with instructions to register and gain access to the webinar 'room' 24 hours before, and a reminder 1 hour before the event.
What you’ll learn: Join us if you or a loved-one has experienced, or suspects they may have, amenorrhoea, PCOS or infertility. You will learn about the causes, symptoms and options for women with such conditions.
