According to Parkinson’s UK, there are 145,000 people diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in the UK – that’s around 1 in every 350 adults. With such a high frequency of people susceptible, learn how you can help your patients to deal with the disease in their everyday lives and beyond.

We are pleased to be joined by Consultant Physician, Dr Mashkur Khan to explore Parkinson’s disease in our 2 hour evening webinar. Dr Khan will use his professional expertise and personal interest in this disorder to help you understand how to manage it, important signs to look out for and modern treatment options available.

Join us to understand Parkinson’s and how to manage it from an expert physician’s point of view.

Dr Maskur Khan will start by going over the difference between the process of slowing down and ageing.

One of the main and most obvious symptoms of Parkinson’s disease is a tremor. He will look into the key points you can find in tremors.

Although the most noticeable symptoms are those that affect movement, there are many that include other issues like mental health, memory problems and pain. Dr Khan will be looking into the non-motor manifestations of Parkinson’s disease.

Although Parkinson's disease can't be cured, medications might significantly improve your symptoms, Dr Khan will be showing you what modern treatment options are available.

He will finish off by discussing what can be done when a person with Parkinson’s disease enters the complex phase.

  • What are the differences between slowing down and ageing?

Consultant Physician | London

I was appointed as a Consultant Physician & Honorary Senior Lecturer at Epsom General Hospital and St George's University of London in 2002. I have pursued an active interest in general medicine, including multi-system pathology and multi-system disorders. I have also developed expertise in diagnostic dilemmas and complex medical problems which are subtle and need careful interpretations. I also do dedicated sessions on the Acute Medical Unit and I am fully versed in acute care, as well as chronic care. I have both inpatient and outpatient commitments and run a busy medical practice. I have a particular interest in medical education and I am the Royal College of Physicians District Tutor, along with being the Programme Director for Core Medical Training on behalf of the London Deanery. As an Honorary Senior Lecturer I teach and examine for the Undergraduate Finals, I am also an Examiner for the membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP UK) and I am the Host Examiner for Epsom General Hospital.

I am particularly interested in all aspects of General Medicine, including syncope and blackouts and I do a full work up for people who are dizzy or feel faint. I also have an interest in Parkinson's disease and its variants and I have chaired both national and international meetings and I have presented in these forums. I also chair the South West Thames Movement Disorder Group and I have been involved in getting specialists together in the South West Thames Region. I am also interested in cognitive problems and memory loss and I am currently the Trust Lead for dementia.

I currently provide both inpatient and outpatient services at Ashtead Hospital. I run two outpatient clinics per week and I am happy to see patients of all age groups. I am very keen to see patients who have undiagnosed medical conditions and have atypical presentations such as weight loss, tiredness and balance problems. I would be happy to see patients at very short notice should the requirement be so.

I am currently an investigator for the COVID-19 vaccine trial. We are currently recruiting for Novavax and we are hopeful that this will be the fourth vaccine out next summer. I am seeing new and follow-up patients in the trial and we are checking their response to the vaccine. We are doing a double blind study and the vaccine arm should prevent the development of COVID.

We are also checking the antibody response for over a year to determine how long the immunity lasts.
