Eating disorders – a psychiatric illness and often an unspoken issue – are on the rise all over the world, with hospital admissions at their highest. A charity which helps those with eating disorders, Beat, has seen demand for their services surge by 81% during the Coronavirus pandemic (www.beateatingdisorders.org.uk). Uncertainty, disrupted routines, lack of gym facilities and food stockpiling are just a few of the factors that exacerbated the eating disordered habits of some, leading to relapses, whilst others developed new disorders.
Join Nutritionist, Wendy O’Neill, for an insight into various eating disorders and their impact both mentally and physically. Her talk will follow the theme of improving physical and mental health and self-esteem, as well as patients accepting personal responsibility for their wellbeing.
Anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, bingeing, binge-purge and disordered eating, emotional eating and orthorexia are some of the disorders that can transpire due to poor mental health. We will be discussing their differences and psychophysiology to understand the effect on the body and mind.
To identify whether your patient might have an eating disorder, it is important to understand who is affected, and the personal and the societal changes which may have impacted them. Wendy will then be exploring how to recognise the signs and diagnose each illness. We will be learning what recovery methods work best for the body and mind, including nutrition and nurturing techniques.
We will send you an email with instructions to register and gain access to the webinar 'room' 24 hours before, and a reminder 1 hour before the event.
