Webinar: Leg Day - Easing Back into the Gym & Lower Limb Injuries

When gyms begin to reopen again as lockdown measures are steadily relaxed, we might expect to see a rise in ‘leg day’ gym-related injuries, especially in those who are returning to exercise for the first time since the pandemic began. It is therefore important to carefully ease back into workouts to avoid overstretching the legs, causing injury. Give your mind a workout and join us for this interactive webinar!

Consultant in Sports and Exercise Medicine, Dr James Noake, will be presenting us with three lower limb gym related injury case studies that he sees regularly in his clinic. He will be giving an in-depth analysis of:

  • Groin pain – including Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI)
  • Anterior knee pain – including extensor mechanism tendinopathy
  • Posterior ankle and heel pain

Using real case histories and materials, Dr Noake will be expanding on these three crucial sports medicine areas. We will be exploring key history and exam findings from the latest research, particularly in relation to the gym environment and specific functional activities, such as the demands of the leg press machine or weighted barbells. Whether it is cardio-, or weights-related, it is important to consider differential diagnoses between each injury and its severity. Therefore, we will be discussing how to identify their nuances, with investigations such as the role of diagnostic injections, point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and MRI scans.

We will also be examining current concepts and consensuses around the topics, using the most up-to-date evidence-based practice and interventions. We will be analysing conservative and non-conservative rehabilitation options, which are vital to get your patients back to the gym.

We will send you an email with instructions to register and gain access to the webinar 'room' on the day of the event.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify differential diagnose for each injury above
  • Understand which specific investigations and scans to refer for
  • Learn about the latest research and evidence-based management options
