What Not To Miss in Foot and Ankle Conditions: Red Flags and Key Signs

Oryon Develop are pleased to have been finally able to lock down two brilliant speakers from London Sports Orthopaedics, Mr Suresh Chandrashekar and Dr Simon Paul.

Management of the foot & ankle is multi-faceted and often includes a plethora of signs and symptoms. This talk will concentrate on avoiding common pitfalls in the management of foot conditions, as well as what to do when things don’t make sense to reduce the chances of missing a potentially important diagnosis.

In the first half of the evening, Mr Suresh Chandrashekar, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, will discuss sport injuries, their presentation and how to manage those injuries that aren’t healing as expected. He will offer his advice on diagnosis, including careful history taking and physical examination. Mr Chandrashekar will also discuss treatment options; both surgical and conservative.

Topics covered include:

  • Sneaky high ankle sprains, persistent pain and instability - what to look for and what to do about it
  • Tendinopathy and other issues with the Achilles tendon
  • Stress fractures and overload
  • Rehabilitation and injury prevention -  tips and tricks on what  we could do better
In the second half of the evening, Dr Simon Paul, Consultant Rheumatologist and Sports Physician, will be looking at rheumatological red flags in the lower limb. Often, other less common conditions can masquerade as an MSK injury and so Dr Paul will discuss the potential alternate aetiologies which should not be missed when examining the lower limb. He will discuss management options and when you should refer onwards, as well as how to ensure your patient gets put on the best treatment path for their condition.
