What is an MRI scan?

What to expect at your MRI scan
Before your MRI scan, our team will explain what to expect and complete the necessary safety checks. You’ll be asked about your medical history, including any implants or devices that could affect MRI safety.
During the scan, you’ll lie on a table that moves into the MRI scanner. The scan is painless, although the machine makes loud noises, and you’ll need to remain still while the images are taken. Our radiographers will guide you throughout the appointment.
After your scan, your images will be reviewed and a report prepared by a specialist radiologist. Your results will be made available through the appropriate clinical pathway, so you can discuss any findings and next steps with your referring clinician.
