If you don’t already have a suitable referral, our Fast Track service provides a clinical consultation to assess whether the scan is appropriate for you. This costs £125 in addition to the scan price.
If you proceed following the consultation, the total is £1,300 without spine or £1,475 with spine.

What does a Whole Body MRI scan look at?
A Whole Body MRI creates detailed images of many of your body’s major organs and structures in a single appointment, providing an overview of your internal health. Including: brain, neck, chest, abdomen and pelvis. The Plus option includes additional imaging of the spine. Despite its name, a Whole Body MRI does not scan every part of the body. It provides an overview of the regions listed above and does not replace a targeted examination for specific symptoms.

Creates detailed images of the brain and surrounding structures, that may help identify changes that may require further investigation.
Liver & abdominal organs
Assesses major abdominal organs including the liver, kidneys and spleen as part of your Whole Body MRI.
Bones & joints
Assesses bones, joints and the spine for structural changes that may require further investigation.
Muscles & soft tissues
Evaluates muscles, tendons and other soft tissues throughout the body and may signify any abnormalities.

Important: This scan is designed for screening and peace of mind. It is not intended to diagnose specific symptoms. Despite its name, a Whole Body MRI scans selected regions, not the entire body. It cannot detect every cancer or medical condition, and a normal result does not rule out disease. It does not replace NHS screening programmes or a targeted investigation of symptoms.

What is a Whole Body MRI scan?

Unlike CT scans or X-rays, MRI does not use ionising radiation.
What does a Whole Body MRI scan look at?
The scan covers the brain, neck, chest, abdomen and pelvis. The Plus option also includes additional imaging of the spine. It does not assess every organ, joint or soft tissue in detail, and your referring clinician can advise whether a targeted scan would be more appropriate.
What can a Whole Body MRI detect?
A Whole Body MRI may identify a range of findings including:
Certain solid tumours (typically larger than 1 cm)
Fatty liver disease
Non-cancerous cysts
Musculoskeletal abnormalities
Degenerative spinal changes (Plus option)
No screening test can detect every condition, and further investigations may sometimes be recommended.

How long does a Whole Body MRI scan take?
Your Whole Body MRI appointment usually takes around 80–100 minutes, depending on whether additional spine imaging is included.
Our experienced radiographers will guide you throughout the examination and make sure you’re as comfortable as possible.
Is a Whole Body MRI safe?
Yes. MRI is considered a safe imaging technique because it uses powerful magnets and radio waves rather than ionising radiation.
However, MRI may not be suitable for everyone. During your referral and safety screening, we’ll check whether the scan is appropriate for you.
Does a Whole Body MRI use radiation?
No.
A Whole Body MRI does not use ionising radiation.
Instead, it uses magnetic fields and radio waves to create highly detailed images of the body.
Do I need a referral for a Whole Body MRI?
Yes. A referral is required before having a Whole Body MRI scan.

Your whole body MRI scan takes around 80–100 minutes. It’s painless, non-invasive, and fully supported by an experienced Radiographer.
After your scan
Images are uploaded securely to your portal the same day. A detailed report from a Consultant Radiologist is typically available within 3 working days.
