Physiotherapists primarily treat musculoskeletal issues, such as back pain, knee pain, sports injuries and more. They can also help with other conditions, such as neurological, respiratory and cardiovascular issues.
How can a physiotherapist help me?
Physiotherapists offer a whole-person approach to healthcare. They aim to diagnose your issue and then treat it, often by giving you a tailored exercise programme to do in your own time, which will help to relieve pain and get you on the road to recovery. A physiotherapy appointment will often also include some form of manual therapy, (e.g. kneading and/ or manipulating muscles).
A physiotherapist may refer you for diagnostic imaging, such as an MRI scan, an X-ray or an ultrasound scan. Sometimes they might refer you to a specialised consultant.
