GPs are often the first point of contact for someone with a healthcare issue. They are knowledgeable in most areas of medicine and can often diagnose and treat issues. If a GP sees a patient with a serious condition, they can refer them to a specialist, for example a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.
How can a private GP help me?
A GP will listen as you describe your healthcare concern and, depending on what it is, they may be able to diagnose and treat it. This might include prescribing medicine, referring you for diagnostic imaging such as an MRI scan, X-ray or ultrasound scan, or giving you advice.
They may refer you to a specialist, such as a physiotherapist or a consultant.
