Dr Kunle Odetoyinbo is an accredited and now chartered performance consultant with a sport science and nutrition specialist. He has vast experience spanning 28 years, providing support services to elite sport both in the UK and abroad. An evidence-based practitioner who specialises in Sport, Exercise Physiology, Nutrition, Health, Performance Health Management and Research. His philosophy of practice is evidenced based, complimented by a significant background of experience ranging across team/individual sports, international and local governing bodies of sport across many parts of the world.
Career to Date
He graduated from St Mary’s University College in 1990 with a combined Honours Degree in Human Biology and Human Movement Sciences whilst competing in semi-professional football and amateur athletics. He then furthered his studies with an MSc Sports Science gained from Loughborough University and has since completed Post Graduate Diplomas in nutritional medicine, sports nutrition (International Olympic committee, Lausanne Switzerland) and a doctorate in health at the University of Bath. Practically Kunle is a qualified club coach, with qualifications in athletics, football, tennis and basketball.
Appointments
Some of his first appointments involved lecturing and research positions where exercise physiology and sports nutrition where his main focus. At the University of Surrey Roehampton in 1995, he was granted a research fellowship at the age of 25 and created the Sports Performance Assessment & Research Consultancy (SPARC) which continues to provide sport science support to elite sport. To this day he has maintained Senior lecturer visiting status at other institutions including Oxford Brookes University and St Mary’s University College and the University Of Surrey where nutrition and exercise Physiology are his main areas of delivery.
Research and Interests
Kunle is currently more applied in his work in the sport performance driven environment. This work has involved working with sports medicine specialists, managers/coaches of elite teams in premiership/championship football and rugby, as well as governing bodies of sport both in the UK and abroad.
When asked about what most excites him in sports science, he replied…
“I remain excited by the plasticity and adaptability of the human body and continue to strive to apply my knowledge and experience to aid performance, rehabilitation, health and wellbeing for all who consult me”.
