Jonathan Bird
Mr. Jonathan Bird qualified from UCL School of Medicine in 1997. Joining the British Army whilst at medical school, he witnessed the highest standard of medical care afforded to our Armed Forces. It was his experience in the army that first sparked his interest in orthopaedic surgery, particularly the treatment of knee injuries. During his army career, Jonathan graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and rose to the rank of major. A secondment to the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory in Porton Down provided him with academic and research experience in the field of blast injuries. He saw active service in Iraq in 2004. Having left the army in 2004, Jonathan took up specialist orthopaedic training in and around North London. He completed a prestigious Knee Fellowship at University Hospital Coventry before taking up his current NHS Consultant post at University Hospital Lewisham.
Jonathan is the principle knee surgeon at Lewisham Hospital specialising in knee injuries. He initiated the Acute Knee Service, so that knee injuries are rapidly identified and their treatment prioritised. He is also the Undergraduate Lead for medical students from King’s College London. Jonathan is dedicated to providing the best standard of care to his patients.
