Free Webinar: MRI of the Ankle – What Not To Miss

This event is available to purchase on-demand and was first delivered on Wednesday 24th November 2021. Once you've booked onto the course, you can watch it immediately from your Oryon Develop dashboard by logging into your account.

Conditions in the ankle are often multi-faceted with a plethora of signs and symptoms. Using case studies throughout, Consultant Radiologist, Dr Dhiren Shah will be concentrating on helping radiographers to identify the signs of injury/pathology in ankle MRI. We will also be looking at current advances in MRI technology.

If you are a radiographer, you won’t want to miss out on this 2-hour talk specifically designed to give you optimum knowledge and insights on musculoskeletal MRI, all for free!

We will send you an email with instructions to register and gain access to the webinar 'room' 24 hours before, and a reminder 1 hour before the event.

Dr Shah will be delving into the imaging signs and mechanism of common ankle injuries, in addition to other pathology. He will be utilising case studies to help recognise subtle and more obvious signs of injury and pathology in relation to:

  • Ankle inversion injury
  • Subtalar instability
  • Ankle impingement syndromes
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Arthropathy

Throughout the session we will be discussing the terminology that a radiologist would use in their report. You will leave with an understanding of MRI recommendations from the Society of Radiographers and Royal College of Radiologists in the context of these disorders and be able to implement them in your own work.

We will be taking a dive into the latest advances in MRI to learn what software and hardware technologies can be used to maximise patient benefits from imaging.

At Oryon Imaging, we offer reporting in one full working day by Consultant Radiologists, such as Dr Shah. Our clinical team of radiographers are extremely professional and friendly, and all patients are made to feel comfortable and respected from the moment they book an appointment with us, to stepping foot in our clinic, to being scanned by our trusted and caring radiographers. During the talk you will be provided with an overview of Oryon Imaging.

Schedule:

  • Ankle inversion injury
  • Subtalar instability
  • Ankle impingement syndromes
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Arthropathy
  • Fractures
  • Current advances in MRI
  • Our team of radiographers at Oryon

Learning Outcomes:

  • Gain in-depth knowledge of ankle pathologies for the conditions listed above and be able to spot key imaging signs, thereby avoiding missing red flags.
  • Understand how the official recommendations and the latest MRI technology can be used in your own work.

Dhiren Shah

Consultant Radiologist | London

Dr Dhiren Shah graduated from Medicine at Cambridge University in 1999 and St. George's Hospital, London in 2002, attaining MBBS with Distinction. He trained in Surgery in London and Bristol, obtaining MRCS in 2006. Dr Shah trained in Radiology at Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospitals, London, attaining FRCR in 2010. He is double-fellowship trained in Musculoskeletal Radiology from Oxford and Toronto. He has particular expertise in sports imaging, having worked as an MSK radiologist at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, 2014, European Games in Baku, 2015, World Athletics Championships in London, 2017, and Asian Indoor Games in Ashgabat, 2017. He has lectured at general and musculoskeletal radiology meetings throughout his career, and has several peer-reviewed publications in the radiology literature, as well as presentations at local, national, and international radiology meetings. Dr Shah's NHS base is Northwick Park Hospital in London. His private practice is based in London, in particular at Wellington and St. John and St. Elizabeth Hospitals.

He has vast experience in reporting MSK MRI and performing MSK ultrasound scans, numbers of which exceed 5000 every year. Working closely with surgeons and rheumatologists has enabled him to continuously improve the accuracy of his MRI reports. He is passionately involved in the training and education of radiologists, being both a clinical and educational supervisor for general and MSK radiology trainees, as well as interviewing on radiology registrar and consultant recruitment panels since 2014. He has been involved in the quality assurance of radiology training by representing the PMETB (and later GMC) on deanery visits and panels during his career.

He regularly takes part in at least 5 MDT meetings across various hospitals, working closely with professionals including orthopaedic surgeons, sports physicians, rheumatologists, physiotherapists and radiologists.

Patient experience, quality improvement and clear communication have always been the cornerstone of his practice. His QI project entitled 'How to measure the perfect radiology report' has been selected for presentation at RSNA 2021 in Chicago this year, introducing novel concepts such as quality metrics into radiology reports, a subject he has been keenly promoting throughout his career.

Live 2-hour group learning webinar, speaker's slides (if permitted), CPD certificate, and recording of the course (even if you can't make it to the live event).
