Common Sports Injuries of the Upper Limb

Join Abhi Gulihar, Consultant Shoulder and Upper Limb Surgeon, alongside Oryon’s Clinical Director Dr Naeem Ahmed for a clear and practical overview of common soft-tissue and sports injuries of the upper limb. This session will help practitioners better understand injury mechanisms, key clinical features, appropriate use of imaging, and principles of conservative versus surgical management.

Designed for physiotherapists, sports practitioners, GPs, and MSK professionals, the webinar focuses on improving decision-making, recognising red flags, and guiding safe and effective return-to-sport pathways.

Perfect for anyone seeking an accessible, evidence-informed update on upper-limb sports injuries from a surgeon’s perspective.

Abhinav Gulihar

Trauma & Orthopaedic Consultant | London

Mr Abhi Gulihar is an orthopaedic and trauma surgeon specialising in the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand. His work focuses on minimally invasive keyhole procedures, advanced shoulder replacement surgery, and the treatment of sports injuries, fractures, ligament damage, and complex upper limb trauma. His training includes specialist orthopaedic work across the East Midlands and Kent, Surrey, and Sussex, further enhanced by prestigious fellowships at the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre and the European Arthroscopy Fellowship. He has collaborated with leading surgeons in Europe and the USA to remain at the forefront of orthopaedic innovation. Currently, he applies this expertise at King’s College Hospital NHS Trust, treating a wide range of upper limb conditions. For Mr Gulihar, surgery is considered a carefully weighed decision. He favours conservative management where appropriate, reserving surgical intervention for conditions that will benefit most. His surgical experience includes treatment of displaced clavicle, collarbone, wrist (distal radius/scaphoid), and hand (metacarpal) fractures, along with soft tissue repairs such as acromio-clavicular joint reconstruction, biceps tendon and pectoralis major ruptures, shoulder stabilisation for instability (keyhole and open), and full-thickness rotator cuff tears. His goal is to enable early mobilisation, speed recovery, and preserve long-term limb function.Outside the operating theatre, Mr Gulihar is an active educator and researcher. As departmental lead for education and training, he has introduced improvements to support trauma and orthopaedic trainees. His contributions to the field include over 25 peer-reviewed publications, presentations at national and international conferences, and two advanced research degrees: a Masters in Orthopaedic Engineering and an MD in joint cartilage research from the University of Leicester.
