Face-to-face: 2nd Essex Pain Symposium

Pain manifests itself in many forms and in many conditions.

As our Pain Symposium returns to Essex for its 2nd year, you’ll have the opportunity to join us in-person for our first post-pandemic face-to-face masterclass!

With an array of talks, from Pain Consultants to ENT to Radiologists, gain 7 hours’ CPD and exhaustive expert knowledge on conditions on the theme of pain. Take skills, such as knowing which modality to refer for when a patient presents with low back pain, back to your clinic to inform your practice.

You will receive an email with instructions on joining us in the days leading up to the course – please check your junk mail if you have not received this!

Differential Diagnosis & Treatment of Facial & Neck Pain – Prof. Paul Chatrath, Consultant ENT Surgeon

It can often be difficult to tell the causes of facial pain apart. From sinusitis to the non-sinogenic to cervical spine, we will be hearing expert insights from Prof Paul Chatrath on the differential diagnoses. We will be delving into the symptoms, investigations, medical and surgical treatments for sinusitis and examining possible non-sinogenic reasons. There can also be an overlap between sinus and c-spine causes of facial pain, headache and dizziness. Therefore, we will be understanding how this overlap presents, whom to refer onto and the best-practice treatments, whatever the diagnosis.

Knee Pain: Injuries & Arthritis - Mr Ravindran Ranjith, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Many forms of knee pain can arise in your practice. Mr Ravindran Ranjith will be using a wealth of experience in knee surgery and treating patients in pain to inform his talk. We will be exploring injuries such as meniscal and ligament tears or breakages, osteochondral lesions, and tendinopathies, also touching briefly on arthritis. Mr Ranjith will be enhancing your knowledge on the latest clinical evidence for treatments available, and whether conservative or surgical management is necessary for each patient.

Which Modality? Imaging for Low Back Pain - Dr Qaiser Malik, Consultant Radiologist

Which modality do you refer for when a patient has low back pain? Dr Qaiser Malik will be giving us an insight into the mind of a Radiologist with this captivating imaging-focused talk. We will be exploring when to request a lumbar spine X-ray and/or MRI, and when an X-ray and/or MRI of the sacroiliac joint or an MRI of the pelvis might be necessary. What appears on the scan results may not always be immediately apparent, so Dr Malik will be using case studies to help us to spot the signs and red flags, as well as understand patient reports.

Sciatica – Dr Manojit Sinha, Consultant in Pain Medicine and Spinal Intervention

Sciatica is also known as radicular pain caused by irritation, impingement or compression of the spinal nerve. It can be acute or chronic have an impact on functional mobility. The treatment is multimodal with medications, exercises, injections, and surgery if indicated. The earlier the treatment is initiated, the better the prognosis. Join Dr Manojit Sinha to hear his opinion on diagnosis, management and much more.
