Webinar: Movement Disorders – Managing Parkinson’s & Other Conditions

According to NICE, Parkinson’s disease is ‘one of the commonest neurological conditions’ affecting ‘up to 160 people per 100,000, with an annual incidence of 15–20 per 100,000. Many population studies have shown the rising prevalence of Parkinson’s with age (up to 2% of the population aged 80 and over)’ with ‘around 1 in 7 cases diagnosed below the age of 60 years’.

Whether it is Parkinson’s, dystonia, ataxia, chorea, myoclonus or tics, we will be delving into the differential diagnosis of movement disorders and their management, focusing particularly on Parkinson’s in the second half of the webinar.

Consultant Neurologist, Dr Tabish Saifee will be joining us to give us his insight into the topic. Having published over 50 peer-reviewed papers related to movement disorders and been the principal investigator for a number of clinical trials for Parkinson's disease, Dr Saifee has a plethora of knowledge and experience.

This event is available to purchase on-demand and was first delivered on Monday 24th May 2021. Once you've purchased the course, you can watch it immediately from your Oryon Develop dashboard by logging into your account.

Firstly, we will be focussing on defining movement disorders where there is too little movement (hypokinetic) or too much movement (hyperkinetic), such as tremor or dystonia. The features and symptoms of each disorder will be explored by Dr Saifee and we will be discussing the key approaches to treatments, deciding which will give your patients the best quality of life.

Taking a deep-dive into Parkinson’s disease in the second half, we will be asking what are the latest findings in research and how can we apply this in practice? Dr Saifee will be covering investigations such as blood tests, MRI and DAT SPECT, and utilising case studies. We will also be considering vital management techniques, such as allied therapies which you can take back to your clinic, medications and 'advanced treatments', including neurosurgical options.
