If you want a comprehensive update on knee ligament injuries, look no further! This talk will cover just about everything you knee-d to know in day-to-day practice about ligament injuries in and around the knee. You might see a lot of guidelines and protocols with bold, firm didactic comments; however, this evening session will focus on a common sense approach with patient-centric decision making tailored to the individual.
Join renowned speaker and Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Mr Ian McDermott, for this webinar that will give your CPD a kick!
This event is available to purchase on-demand and was first delivered on Wednesday 7th April 2021. Once you've purchased the course, you can watch it immediately from your Oryon Develop dashboard by logging into your account.
Focusing on the ACL in the first half, we will be reviewing its structure and understanding how it tears, including the issue of partial tears. We will be highlighting the key points to look out for in history taking and clinical examination, as well as emphasising the importance and value of appropriate imaging. We will then explore the evidence-base surrounding potential treatment options for ACL tears, with a discussion about the role of rehabilitation versus reconstruction. When surgery is necessary, what type of graft is ‘best’, and what might that mean for the patient’s recovery? We will also discuss the issue of ‘return to play’, dispelling some of the fallacies focussing instead on the genuine science.
In the second half of this webinar, we will then move on to the PCL, the collateral ligaments and the posterolateral corner. We will present a clear and simple explanation of the anatomy and the relevance of injury to each structure. Does the MCL really matter? How do we deal with LCL and posterolateral corner injuries? When do we leave them alone and when do we operate? Finally, Mr McDermott will give an update on best-practice for the management of the multiligament-injured knee.
Mr McDermott will share his personalised and carefully considered approach, focussing on the needs of the individual patient as to when surgical or non-surgical management is most appropriate. Join us to increase your diagnostic and decision-making potential!
