Paediatric hip conditions incurred through injury or malformation can be extremely concerning for parents and patients alike, particularly if the condition continues or develops further into adolescence or adulthood. Sign up for this comprehensive webinar with Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Professor Tahir Khan, to discuss paediatric hip problems, learn how to spot pathologies early on and understand the longer-term sequelae of these later in life.
This event is available to purchase on-demand and was first delivered on Wednesday 10th March 2021. Once you've purchased the course, you can watch it immediately from your Oryon Develop dashboard by logging into your account.
We will begin by examining children’s conditions, including Hip Dysplasia, Perthes Disease, Slipped Upper Femoral Epiphysis and Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI). Looking at their aetiologies and analysing the symptoms and red-flags to look out for, we will be deciding on the best-practice investigations to request, in order to make an accurate diagnosis. Using case studies, Prof. Khan will be demonstrating how to identify these pathologies, utilising diagnostic imaging and physical examination. We will be weighing up the best treatments for each condition and deciding whether conservative management is sufficient for the child or whether surgery is necessary, keeping the child’s best interests in mind.
We will then focus on adolescent hip pain. Prof. Khan will be advising us on the changes the body can go through, and how to recognise the presentation of an advanced condition. Residual dysplasia of the hip and femoral head deformities are two of the most prominent disorders which can cause problems in adults. We will explore the pathophysiology and epidemiology of the conditions, understanding how they develop, before learning how they can cause problems later on in life. We will again be assessing the best rehabilitation methods; both in operative and non-operative methods.
Look out for the early signs in your patients, be they children or adults, and be equipped to deal with them even when complications arise.
