Webinar: Acupuncture & Dry Needling – An Evidence-Based Discussion

Acupuncture and dry needling are common treatment interventions in musculoskeletal and sports injury outpatient clinics. Both are often misunderstood, and preconceived notions about each can influence the bias of both clinicians and patients.

The aim of this session is to offer attendees a brief introduction to the physiological mechanisms of acupuncture and dry needling and their role in the treatment of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction. The end goal being to demystify the approaches and shed some light on their underlying mechanisms and potential applications.

Join Mr Jonathan Hobbs, Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP) Accredited Tutor and Chairman on Thursday 9th December.

We will send you an email with instructions to register and gain access to the webinar 'room' 24 hours before, and a reminder 1 hour before the event.

Find out the neurophysiological mechanisms of needling and how they can help your patients with numerous musculoskeletal conditions, such as osteoarthritis.

Mr Hobbs will be explaining the reasons for and benefits of using acupuncture and dry needling. For instance, including enhancing pain modulation via the stimulation of the brain and spinal cord to produce natural pain-relieving chemicals, such as serotonin, endorphins and noradrenalin. We will also examine the differences between acupuncture and dry needling techniques.

Evidence-based research and clinical practice has proven the abilities of acupuncture within physiotherapy. Mr Hobbs will be exploring the literature around the practices and the clinical reasoning to refer your patients for acupuncture.

Schedule:

  • Neurophysiological mechanisms of needling
  • Reasons to use acupuncture and dry needling
  • The difference between acupuncture and dry needling
  • The evidence
  • Clinical reasoning

Learning Outcomes:
