Our consultant speakers from Ashtead and North Downs Hospitals in Surrey will be exploring hand and wrist, neck and back, and shoulder conditions with their respective specialities.

Get 4 hours’ CPD and acquire comprehensive knowledge on aetiologies, diagnosis and management of upper body orthopaedic conditions in our half-day masterclass.

Anatomy, Assessment & Approach: The Incredible Human Hand – Mr Murali Bhat, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Learn from expert upper limb surgeon, Mr Murali Bhat, on a range of conditions such as:

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Trigger finger
  • De Quervain's tenosynovitis
  • Arthritis of the hand and wrist

We will be discussing the best-practice techniques for assessment, finding the correct diagnosis and treatment methods for each. Using case studies of hand and wrist pathophysiology to facilitate learning, we will be emphasising conditions which should be recognised and treated early.

Neck Pain and Cervical Radiculopathy – Mr Praveen Inaparthy, Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon

Degenerative neck conditions can be extremely painful and debilitating for the patient. Enhance your knowledge with Mr Praveen Inaparthy on how to identify conditions, such as cervical arthritis, radiculopathy, disc herniations and instability. We will be examining investigations, including MRI and SPECT scans and examination techniques, before delving into a discussion on the most advanced treatments in the field. Management options will range from physiotherapy, medications, to various cervical injection techniques, radiofrequency denervation, anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF), total disc replacements (TDR), posterior foraminotomy, laminectomy and minimally invasive (MIS) posterior cervical fusion.

Tendinopathies of The Shoulder and Elbow – Mr Arvind Mohan, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Mr Arvind Mohan will be delving into common shoulder and elbow tendinopathies: the frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis), rotator cuff problems and tennis elbow. Learn about coexisting shoulder pathologies which can make diagnosis for frozen shoulder more difficult, and advances in non-surgical treatment, as well as injection which can halt the condition. We will be exploring traumatic rotator cuff tears in younger patients with a clear history need to be spotted and repaired, as there is a small window of opportunity to do this. Other cases often may have a mixed picture with chronic elements, so indications for surgery become less clear, and we will consider the factors in the decision to repair. Lastly, we will look at tennis elbow pathology and diagnosis, along with the evidence base for physiotherapy, steroid injections, and PRP treatments.

Learning outcomes:

  • Take practical tips and knowledge back to your practice on common hand and wrist conditions which should be identified and treated early on
  • Understand degenerative cervical spine conditions, such as cervical arthritis, radiculopathy, disc herniations and instability, and how to recognise and manage them
  • Identify the key components of each common shoulder condition but understand how they can overlap and learn about the advances in non-surgical and surgical treatments
