Webinar: Fibromyalgia & Chronic Pain – An Examination

Fibromyalgia, a long-term or chronic condition that causes pain all over the body, is a notoriously challenging and complex illness to pinpoint and treat. A June 2020 article in The Journal of the International Association for the Study of Pain found that although Fibromyalgia is a common condition, its aetiology is not fully understood, and could be explained through underlying ‘somatic, psychological, and social factors’.

We are very pleased to welcome back Pain Management Consultant, Dr Deepak Ravindran, to present an in-depth webinar on this tricky topic.

This event is available to purchase on-demand and was first delivered on Tuesday 22nd September 2020. Once you've purchased the course, you can watch it immediately from your Oryon Develop dashboard by logging into your account.

In the first half, Dr Ravindran introduces us to the condition, outlining the physiological processes and symptoms to look out for, such as its links with poor sleep, fatigue, and depression. Dr Ravindran discusses the most recent scientific advances in understanding the aetiologies of such a complex condition. For example, having more of a comprehensive and holistic approach to underlying conditions and their impact, as the above article suggests, can help to understand the case. Utilising specific case histories, we look at the best assessment methods and techniques to diagnose the difficult condition for each patient.

The second half of the webinar includes a review of the principles of managing Fibromyalgia and chronic pain, as well as the principles of the complex systems in treating pain. We also explore holistic, integrated treatment strategies and lifestyle changes including exercise, nutrition, the microbiome, and relaxation techniques. Lastly, we discuss mainstream treatment pathways, such as pharmaceutical medications and medical interventions.
