Webinar: Handy Tips & Tricks – Conditions and Traumas in the Hand & Wrist

Gain the upper hand with techniques to take back to your clinic, in this webinar on hand and wrist conditions and traumas. We will be discussing an array of ailments from Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Mr Ali Shafighian’s area of specialty, which your patients will be likely to present with. Though they may be common conditions and injuries, complications could occur, and this webinar will ensure that you are equipped to deal with all scenarios.

In the first half of the evening, we will be examining hand and wrist conditions such as:

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Simple and complex Dupuytren’s Disease or contracture
  • Thumb arthritis

We will be refreshing your memory on the pathologies, anatomy and incidence of such conditions. For instance, that the prevalence of Dupuytren’s Disease ranges from 0.2-30%, varying widely with geographical location, due to genetics, environment, or a combination of both, and is more common in men than women. These conditions can cause pain, swelling, decreased strength and range of motion, making it difficult to do simple tasks, such as turning doorknobs and opening jars. We will be identifying the signs and assessment techniques for each condition so that an accurate diagnosis can be made. We will also be understanding management options, such as rehabilitation exercises, needle fasciotomies, medications, splints and surgery if necessary.

In the second half, we will be analysing traumas such as:

  • Mallet Finger
  • Wrist Sprain
  • TFCC Injury

Traumas such as these are common in sports injuries, or simply from falls, bumps and bashes. Ensure you fully understand the aetiologies, nuances and assessment of the conditions so that your patients can receive the right treatment for their problem. For example, if left untreated, mallet finger can lead to a swan neck deformity from PIP joint hyper extension and DIP joint flexion. Most mallet finger injuries can be managed conservatively, but occasionally surgery is recommended for an acute or a chronic mallet finger or for failed prior treatment. Therefore, we will be discussing when surgical and non-surgical approaches are appropriate for each injury and the latest options available.

Don’t let your patients’ conditions get out of hand, book on now!

We will send you an email with instructions to register and gain access to the webinar 'room' on the day of the event.
