In the first half of this webinar, we examine hand and wrist conditions such as:

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Simple and complex Dupuytren’s Disease or contracture
  • Thumb arthritis

We refresh your memory on the pathologies, anatomy and incidence of such conditions. For instance, that the prevalence of Dupuytren’s Disease ranges from 0.2-30%, varying widely with geographical location, due to genetics, environment, or a combination of both, and is more common in men than women. These conditions can cause pain, swelling, decreased strength and range of motion, making it difficult to do simple tasks, such as turning doorknobs and opening jars. We identify the signs and assessment techniques for each condition so that an accurate diagnosis can be made. We also look at management options, such as rehabilitation exercises, needle fasciotomies, medications, splints and surgery if necessary.

In the second half, we analyse traumas such as:

  • Mallet Finger
  • Wrist Sprain
  • TFCC Injury

Traumas such as these are common in sports injuries, or simply from falls, bumps and bashes. Ensure you fully understand the aetiologies, nuances and assessment of the conditions so that your patients can receive the right treatment for their problem. For example, if left untreated, mallet finger can lead to a swan neck deformity from PIP joint hyper extension and DIP joint flexion. Most mallet finger injuries can be managed conservatively, but occasionally surgery is recommended for an acute or a chronic mallet finger or for failed prior treatment. Therefore, we discuss when surgical and non-surgical approaches are appropriate for each injury and the latest options available.

Schedule:

Part 1: Hand & Wrist Conditions

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Simple and complex Dupuytren’s Disease
  • Thumb (and finger) arthritis

Part 2: Hand & Wrist Traumas

  • Mallet finger
  • Wrist sprain
  • TFCC injury

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the pathologies and assessment techniques for each condition
  • Learn differences and nuances in treatment options at each stage of the problem
  • Expand your knowledge on non-surgical and surgical rehabilitation – when to refer onward
