Webinar: Adolescent & Adult Acne – Myths, Management & Maintenance

Did you know that about 95% of people aged 11 to 30 are affected by acne according to the NHS? Acne can be an uncomfortable and embarrassing condition to live with, but for many adolescents and adults, the damage to the skin does not end when the discolouration fades. Inflammatory acne can return and poses the risk of leaving permanent scarring, which can become more stubborn or worsen if left untreated.

In this engaging webinar, Dr Hiba Injibar, the founder, director, and lead Consultant Dermatologist of Dermasurge Clinic on Harley Street, dispells the myths about acne for both age groups and exploring how to treat and prevent it.

This event is available to purchase on-demand and was first delivered on Monday 10 August 2020. Once you've purchased the course, you can watch it immediately from your Oryon Develop dashboard by logging into your account.

We discuss the pathophysiology of acne for each patient; whether it is hormonal, diet-related or otherwise, and the differences in adolescents and adults. Dr Injibar busts the common myths and misconceptions surrounding acne, like the idea that pores can open and close. She covers 'maskne' or acne developed from wearing a mask, which is particularly pertinent during this pandemic. We also explore the various types of acne scarring, such as ice-pick, rolling, atrophic and boxcar scars.

Acne can be managed in a range of methods, including oral or topical medications and laser treatment. We will be discussing how you recommend the right therapy for your patient and the numerous options available. This includes a debate over isotretinoin capsules (also known by the brand names, Roaccutane and Rizuderm) for severe cases, and their risks and benefits. We also examine manual therapies such as chemical peels, laser peels, subcisions, and microneedling, as well as prevention tips and skin care.
