Webinar: Adolescent & Adult Acne – Myths, Management & Maintenance

Did you know that about 95% of people aged 11 to 30 are affected by acne according to the NHS? Acne can be an uncomfortable and embarrassing condition to live with, but for many adolescents and adults, the damage to the skin does not end when the discolouration fades. Inflammatory acne can return and poses the risk of leaving permanent scarring, which can become more stubborn or worsen if left untreated.

In this interactive webinar, Dr Hiba Injibar, the founder, director, and lead Consultant Dermatologist of Dermasurge Clinic on Harley Street, will be dispelling the myths about acne for both age groups and exploring how to treat and prevent it.

We will be discussing the pathophysiology of acne for each patient; whether it is hormonal, diet-related or otherwise, and the differences in adolescents and adults. Dr Injibar will be busting the common myths and misconceptions surrounding acne, like the idea that pores can open and close. She will be covering 'maskne' or acne developed from wearing a mask, which is particularly pertinent during this pandemic. We will also explore the various types of acne scarring, such as ice-pick, rolling, atrophic and boxcar scars.

Acne can be managed in a range of methods, including oral or topical medications and laser treatment. We will be discussing how you recommend the right therapy for your patient and the numerous options available. This will include a debate over isotretinoin capsules (also known by the brand names, Roaccutane and Rizuderm) for severe cases, and their risks and benefits. We will also be examining manual therapies such as chemical peels, laser peels, subcisions, and microneedling, as well as prevention tips and skin care.

We will send you an email with instructions to register and gain access to the webinar 'room' on the day of the event.
