According to a Medscape article, the incidence of dizziness, vertigo, and imbalance is ‘40% in patients older than 40 years’. Such symptoms can lead to falling accidents which occur in 25% of subjects over 65. With presentations of this kind being extremely common, it is important to be able to isolate and identify where the problem lies, particularly if it is a persistent issue.
Join Consultant Neurologist, Dr Ben Turner, and Consultant ENT Surgeon, Mr Nicholas Eynon-Lewis, for an in-depth discussion of Vestibular Disorders in this interactive webinar. They will be uniting their knowledge and expertise to provide a comprehensive analysis of the conditions.
We will be breaking down and assessing the various parts of the balance system, examining the reasons why some people feel such symptoms while others do not. Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo is commonly caused by a problem with balance in the inner ear, however, it can also be caused by problems in certain parts of the brain. We will look at the signs that are commonly exhibited by patients, such as sickness and dizziness, and how to identify whether the problem is neurological, or ENT-related. We will discuss how abnormalities in specific areas of the brain that deal with balance or integration of vision can cause dizziness and put patients off-balance. Our speakers will be presenting their assessment techniques including function testing, such as looking inside the patients’ ears and checking the eyes for signs of uncontrollable movement (nystagmus). This will help in the accurate diagnosis of problems and conditions, such as Ménière’s disease.
They will also be taking a multidisciplinary approach in advising on clinical techniques that can be used in the rehabilitation of balance and vertigo. From simple manual therapy manoeuvres, such as the Epley’s head manoeuvre, to medication options available and treatment of Ménière’s disease which includes salt restriction and diuretics, we will be covering all the bases.
We will send you an email with instructions to register and gain access to the webinar 'room' on the day of the event.
