Webinar: Modern Management of Obesity – Reducing the Threat of Covid-19

With the unveiling of the new government obesity strategy, the people of the UK are being ‘urged to lose weight to beat coronavirus (COVID-19) and protect the NHS’ (www.gov.uk). Now, more than ever, it is important to understand the impacts obesity can have on the wider population, and on the individual.

Join us and Dr Chinnadorai Rajeswaran (Raj), Consultant Physician specialising in obesity, Diabetes and Endocrinology. Raj is the Director of Simplyweight Ltd and runs The London Obesity Clinic at 10 Harley Street, and his experience in treating those with weight problems and knowledge in researching obesity has informed the talk invaluably.

This event is available to purchase on-demand and was first delivered on 30th November, 2020. Once you've purchased the course, you can watch it immediately from your Oryon Develop dashboard by logging into your account.

The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the necessity to look at the body holistically and understand underlying factors which could be at play, particularly obesity. We examine the effects it has had on individuals and the population throughout the pandemic, and why this has been such a prevalent issue.

However, obesity is not just about eating more and exercising less. We explored why this is, including, significantly, a discussion on the gut-brain axis and hormones involved in hunger and fullness. There are metabolic and musculoskeletal consequences of obesity which need to be considered, and these are investigated here using three case studies.

Through lifestyle alterations, modern medical management, and surgical management of obesity, we go through the pros and cons of each method, and how your patients can reduce the threat of Covid-19 to themselves.

Schedule:

  • Impact of obesity on the population & on the individual
  • Obesity and COVID-19 pandemic
  • The gut-brain axis & hormones
  • Consequences of Obesity (metabolic and musculoskeletal)
  • Modern medical & surgical management of obesity

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the impact of obesity on the body and why it has been such a threat in the Covid-19 pandemic
  • Learn about the connection between the gut, the brain and hormones involved in obesity
  • Enhance your knowledge on its metabolic and musculoskeletal consequences
  • Know how you can advise your patients on management methods
