During the pandemic, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Mr Murali Bhat has found that he was able to assist nearly all his patients from the comfort of their own homes through virtual clinics. He has often been able to diagnose them in the first consultation and advise conservative management with electronic drug prescriptions, online splint prescriptions and purpose-built treatment care plans. Patients only had to leave home for a steroid injection, medical imaging, or clinical examination, all of which were unusual.
Join us for this virtual lecture, where he will share his vast experience running virtual clinics both pre- and during Covid-19.
This event is available to purchase on-demand and was first delivered on Monday 26th October 2020. Once you've purchased the course, you can watch it immediately from your Oryon Develop dashboard by logging into your account.
Mr Bhat has become widely known for his unique virtual fracture clinics and is the only consultant in SASH to offer this service to date, which he spoke about on the BBC’s "The One Show”. Video platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Attend Anywhere, as well as telephone, and virtual fracture assessments/direct discharge are discussed. He explains why he believes this technology is here to stay for good!
Diving into the aetiologies of upper limb conditions, such as radicular pain from the shoulder down to the hand, in the second half of the lecture, Mr Bhat identifies the symptoms to look out for. We explore the manipulations and questions to ask your patients via virtual consultation for accurate diagnosis. Lastly, we discuss where to go from there, and conservative management strategies that can be made virtual.
