Knee pain or injury

Knee pain is one of the most common reasons people seek imaging. It may develop gradually through overuse or suddenly after a twist, fall or sporting injury. Symptoms such as swelling, locking, instability or pain when walking or climbing stairs can indicate internal joint damage. An MRI scan provides detailed images of the soft tissues inside the knee, helping clinicians diagnose the cause accurately and plan the right treatment.

Knee MRI scans are commonly used to assess:

  • Meniscal tears
  • Ligament injuries (ACL, MCL, PCL)
  • Cartilage damage
  • Tendon injuries
  • Early joint degeneration

Scan for knee pain

A knee MRI scan is a safe, painless and non‑invasive way to understand what’s happening inside your knee. It does not use radiation and is suitable for investigating both acute injuries and ongoing knee pain.

  • Persistent knee pain or swelling
  • Sports injuries such as ACL, MCL or meniscus tears
  • Suspected cartilage damage
  • Locking, instability or reduced movement
  • Ongoing symptoms despite physiotherapy
