Back pain or injury

Back pain affects most people at some point and often improves with rest or physiotherapy. However, imaging may be recommended if pain is persistent, severe, or associated with symptoms such as leg pain, numbness or weakness. MRI scans allow detailed assessment of the spine, discs and nerves, helping identify the source of pain and guide appropriate treatment.

Spinal MRI scans are commonly used to investigate:

  • Disc bulges or herniations
  • Sciatica and nerve compression
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Unexplained or worsening back pain

Back MRI Scan

A spine MRI scan is a safe, painless and non‑invasive way to understand what’s happening in your spine. It does not use radiation and is particularly useful for identifying the cause of back pain, neck pain or nerve‑related symptoms.

  • Ongoing back or neck pain
  • Sciatica or nerve pain radiating into the arms or legs
  • Numbness, tingling or weakness
  • Reduced mobility or stiffness
  • Symptoms that haven’t improved with physiotherapy or rest
