Why choose prostate MRI screening?

In the UK, prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men, with over 56,000 new cases each year. Yet many cases go undetected due to limitations with PSA testing alone.

Prostate MRI is the most accurate non-invasive way to check your prostate health, especially if you’re experiencing symptoms or have a raised PSA level. It’s also ideal for men who want peace of mind through proactive screening. We offer a highly detailed imaging test that can detect cancer earlier and more accurately. It’s radiation-free and, in many cases, requires no injection. Weekend appointments will be available at our Harley Street clinic.

Unlike PSA blood tests, MRI gives a clearer view of the prostate – helping detect or rule out serious conditions with fewer false positives.

We offer two types of scans:

  • Non-contrast MRI – No injectable dye, suitable for many patients
  • Contrast-enhanced MRI – Includes contrast dye for more detailed results (clinically indicated or on request)

You’ll need a referral to book – either from your own clinician, or through our fast-track referral service for £25 (non-contrast only).

PSA blood test results are required prior to booking.
Patients must be aged 35–80 to qualify for screening.

What does the scan involve?

Our MRI scans follow advanced protocols using multi-parametric imaging:

  • T2-weighted imaging – maps the structure of the prostate
  • Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) – highlights abnormal tissue
  • Dynamic Contrast Enhancement (DCE) – evaluates blood flow in suspicious areas (contrast scan only)

The scan covers the entire prostate and seminal vesicles and may include the surrounding lymph nodes.

Important patient info

  • PSA results must be provided before booking
  • If you’ve had a prostate biopsy, you must wait at least 6 weeks before booking your MRI
  • Contrast-enhanced scans will only be performed with an RMO present, per policy
  • MRI is safe, but you must notify us of any metal implants or prior prostate surgery
  • You must be aged 35–80 for proactive screening

Do I need a referral?

Yes – but if you don’t have one, you can use our scan referral service for just £25.

How long does the scan take?

30–45 minutes, depending on whether contrast is required.

What’s the difference between contrast and non-contrast?

Contrast scans provide enhanced detail using an injectable dye. Your referrer or radiologist will recommend this if needed.

What does it cost?

From £395 non-contrast / £495 with contrast (intro offer). Full price: £595 non-contrast / £695 with contrast. Referral service: £25.

Is MRI better than a PSA test?

Yes. PSA tests can be inaccurate. MRI gives a clearer picture, reducing unnecessary biopsies or missed diagnoses.
