Webinar: Updates in Intervertebral Disc Prolapses

Intervertebral disc prolapse is a condition commonly seen in musculoskeletal practice.

However, there is considerable variation in the epidemiology of patients and the settings in which they occur. Discs in adolescents often have different presenting symptoms to older patients. Although unusual, they can persist and cause significant symptoms. As the spine is still in development, MRI scans need to be reviewed from different perspectives and insights.

Join us with renowned speaker and Consultant Spinal Surgeon, Mr Bob Chatterjee, to explore the latest updates in interverbal disc prolapses.

We will send you an email with instructions to register and gain access to the webinar 'room' 24 hours before, and a reminder 1 hour before the event.

Mr Chatterjee will be providing us with an overview of how to manage foot drop, a nerve and muscular disorder that can prevent a patient from lifting the front of their foot, resulting from a herniated disc.

We will also be exploring the novel surgical techniques to deal with intervertebral disc prolapse, such as laser discectomy, the minimally invasive method by which a thin capillary optical fibre is inserted into the spine. A fine needle is threaded through this, then a laser probe through the needle.

Reading the MRI scan of a patient whose intervertebral disc has prolapsed is also particularly important, so we will be reviewing this as well as particular examples of sporting individuals who have suffered.

Schedule:

  • How to manage foot drop
  • Novel surgical techniques
  • How to read the MRI scan of a disc prolapse
  • Disc prolapses in sporting individuals

Learning Outcomes:

  • To understand the surgical techniques associated with Intervertebral Disc Prolapses, such as laser discectomy.
  • Identify the key things to look out for when reading an MRI scan of a patient whose intervertebral disc has prolapsed.
